Bangladesh Adjusts Gold Prices Amidst Global Trends

by Barbara Miller

DHAKA – The price of gold in Bangladesh has once again seen an upward adjustment, as jewelers raise prices by Tk 1,831 to Tk 117,281 per bhori (11.664 grams), according to a statement released by the Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (Bajus).

Effective today, the cost of one gram of 22-carat gold will be Tk 10,055, reflecting the decision made by the pricing and price monitoring committee of Bajus during a meeting held yesterday. The decision to increase prices was attributed to a rise in the cost of pure gold in the local market.

This latest adjustment comes amidst a prolonged period of increasing gold prices, driven by fluctuations in the international market and supply volatility in the domestic market, which has persisted for over a year.

Previously, on March 19, Bajus had reduced gold prices to Tk 111,158 per bhori (11.664 grams) from a previous record high of Tk 112,907.

While Bangladesh does not import significant quantities of gold, its pricing is heavily influenced by global trends. The country sees an annual demand for gold ranging between 20 to 40 tonnes.
